Hidden Match is an exhibition on Korean traditional craft organized in Riyadh by the Korean Minister of Culture and Tourism in cooperation with the Saudi Commission for Tourism & Antiquities. It is a milestone event because it is the first time that an Asian country is invited to present its cultural heritage in Saudi Arabia.

The exhibition design is inspired by the traditional fasterns-free connections employed in ancient Korean woodworks. The modular system used to organize the layout of the exhibition is based on the standard dimension of laminated mdf panels: the edges of each panel are milled with CNC precision and turned into long finger joints that allow multiple kinds of space combinations. The environment that is generated with this system is quite neutral, yet the separation between each display area becomes a vibrant connection, playing with the lights and recalling memories of traditional Korean buildings (Hanok).

한국공예전시 히든 매치는 문화체육관광부와 한국공예디자인문화진흥원이 사우디아라비아 관광 문화재위원회와 함께 마련한 전시로 리야드에 위치한 사우디아라비아 국립박물관에서 개막하였다. 사우디아라비아에서 최초로 아시아 국가가 그 나라의 문화 유산을 발하는 전시로, 이정표가 될만한 행사다.

전시회 디자인은 고대 한국의 목공예에서 사용되었던 전통적인 연결방식에 영감을 받았다. 전시회의 레이아웃을 구성하는 데 사용되는 모듈식 시스템은 적층형 mdf 패널의 표준 치수를 기반으로 한다. 각 패널의 가장자리는 정밀한 CNC 가공을 거쳐서 핑거조인트로 바뀌고 덕분에 여러 종류의 공간 조합이 가능하게 된다. 이 시스템으로 생성되는 환경은 매우 잔잔하지만 각 디스플레이 영역이 분리되는 지점은 역동적이다. 빛을 가지고 놀며 한국의 전통 건물인 한옥의 기억을 떠올리게 해준다.
