For the Public Design Expo we introduced Baroque space into Seoul: an experiment that requires contamination. Baroque arcades bring interior design to the urban scale: city squares function as public living rooms, while columns provide rhythm and guide us along the corridors of the urban “house” as a dotted line of large windows, gates and interfaces between private and public lives.

To build our PD Expo “portici” we used inflatable signboards, the one found in streets all over Korea, illegally used to advertise commercial venues, with the purpose to help turning a problem into a precious resource.

공공디자인 엑스포를 위해 우리는 서울에 바로크 공간을 소개한다: 이는 오염(혼효)를 요구하는 실험이다. 바로크 회랑은 인테리어 디자인의 성격을 도시의 규모로 가져 온다: 도시의 광장은 공공의 거실의 기능을 갖고, 기둥열들은 리듬을 부여하여, 우리를 도시의 ‘집’ 안에 난 복도로 인도해준다. 점선처럼 나있는 커다란 창과 대문, 그리고 공유영역은 개인과 공공의 삶을 연결해준다.

공공디자인 엑스포의 “portici”를 짓기 위해 우리는 공기간판을 사용했다. 한국의 거리 곳곳에서 찾아볼 수 있는 광고용 불법 간판을 사용함으로써 문제였던 것을 소중한 자원으로 변환시키는데 도움을 주기 위함이다.
